History of RTA

Round Table Associates was incorporated from Lloyd Knight Holdings which was a media purchasing and management agency primarily for The Peoples Church had begun weekly television programming on stations in Canada and the U.S. It was recognized that other not-for-profit agencies had a need for the promotion of their causes around the world. We produced slide and 16mm film and video presentations for several clients. Television documentaries were shot in Africa, India, Haiti, and Venezuela for agencies like World Relief, Christian Blind Mission, and Compassion Canada.

In 1983 we negotiated with Air Canada to provide their inflight programming using the new video projection that had replaced the 16mm, film players. The program, Calendar Canada was hosted by CTV personality David Devall and was provided in English and French Languages. This provided an opportunity to approach other airlines to provide similar services for entertainment and inflight safety videos. We were successful in having Air Transat, Canada 3000, Sky service, and Sunwing airlines as clients.

Our clientele continued to grow not only for non-profit organizations but also for corporate companies requiring promotion for events, conventions, and assemblies. The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada provided many projects for slide presentations and video promos. Our equipment was upgraded to Beta Cam SP video production. We had also created a shooting studio in Richmond Hill, complete with background Syce and lighting grid. We were involved in dealer seminars for Lenbrook Industries and create many training videos for other organizations.

During this period Round Table Associates produced and distributed three and sponsored television programs:
  • Applause – Profiling Canadian artists hosted by Carl Banas from CFRB radio – 39 shows
  • Weigh To Go – A healthy food cooking show hosted by Francis Friefeld – 26 shows
  • The Ultimate Fishing Show – 39 shows featuring fishing professionals from Canada & USA.
In conjunction with Skyservice Airlines, which was owned by Sunquest, we produced many destinations promotional spots until Sunquest was purchased by a company in Great Britain.

In this period of time, our emphasis was changing to more corporate video projects. Some governmental clients such as the Government of Ontario, and the Ministry of Corrections required a video to promote and encourage volunteers to assist inmates who served their time, to adjust once again to community living. We also did safety videos for Toronto Metro Works to prevent accidents.

We continued to upgrade and expand our equipment and resources to meet the challenges we were receiving. To keep pace, it was necessary to remove the items that were becoming obsolete and replace them with the latest technology in production equipment and the maximum editing tools. This is a continuing process as technology is ever evolving. It was necessary as The Christian and Missionary Alliance had made us their corporate media producer and we had to be available for their important meetings, bi-yearly assemblies, and ultimately the production of Alliance Alive – Video DVD Magazine distributed through their churches in Canada.

During these years business expanded with an increasing mix of corporate and charitable organizations that we originally commenced our business with. The highlight was our opportunity to go to Turkey for the C&MA Convention where we spent 10 days videotaping all the seminars and evening assemblies, editing the material all night, and presenting the finished product for viewing the next day. We laughingly gave ourselves a motto “The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes us 10 minutes longer.”

We continue to monitor the changes in our industry and seek new opportunities. Currently, we are promoting the construction industry by providing unique training services for Start-Up Commissioning of building projects that are ready to be turned over to the owners. It continues to have great potential. But now the technique is expanding to staff training in institutions such as St. Joseph’s Hospital which required quick access training on demand any time, anywhere, available on smartphones, tablets, or computers. The training comes in short, chaptered segments in single online portfolios.  Here is a link to one we just completed recently.
